Africapreneurs is a Pan-African media site about entrepreneurs, innovators and the organizations building businesses across Africa, run by Impactedia as one of its media brands. This page explains how we choose stories, where our information comes from, how we check founder and funding claims, and how we correct mistakes.
What we publish
- Portraits: profiles of African founders, innovators and new names worth knowing, based on public records and what they publish about themselves.
- Organizations: profiles of startups, investors, incubators and other ecosystem players, based on their own reports and official records.
- Tools: reviews of software and services useful to African entrepreneurs.
- Guides: practical explanations of starting, funding and growing a business in African markets.
- Insights: our reading of reports and data on the continent’s ecosystems.
- News: funding rounds, appointments and market moves, written from the announcement itself.
- Opportunities: grants, fellowships and open calls, written from the organizer’s official call.
How we source
Every figure, date and factual claim in an article links to where it comes from. We prefer primary sources, in this order:
- The company’s or organization’s own documents: official announcements, annual reports, financial statements and program pages.
- Institutional sources: government, central bank and regulator notices, and reports from development finance institutions, multilateral bodies and research organizations, cited by name and publication date.
- Public registries and databases, when the company publishes nothing itself.
We take facts from the companies and institutions involved, not from other media outlets’ coverage. When two credible sources give different figures, we show both and explain the difference rather than picking one. We do not publish statistics, quotes, awards or rankings we cannot trace to a source.
Founder stories and funding claims
We cover Africa on its own terms and write for readers on the continent first. A founder’s success story gets checked before it gets told, and we don’t repeat a claim because it sounds good. Funding amounts, valuations and user numbers are attributed to the company, investor or program that announced them, with a link to that announcement. If we cannot find a source for a figure, we leave it out.
Two languages, one standard
We publish in English and French, and Francophone Africa gets the same attention as the Anglophone side of the continent. Both editions follow the same sourcing, correction and update rules set out on this page.
Tools, affiliate links and sponsored content
Some links in our Tools section are affiliate links, and Africapreneurs may earn a commission when a reader signs up through them. Sponsored or partner content is labeled as such so it can be told apart from our own reporting.
No investment or legal advice
Africapreneurs is not a financial or legal adviser. Our articles give readers the facts they need to understand a company, a funding call or a market. They do not tell anyone where to invest or apply. For a decision about your own business or money, speak to a qualified adviser. Our Disclaimer sets this out in full.
Updates
We review portraits, organization profiles and guides when the facts they rely on change, for example a new funding round, a change of leadership or a new regulation, and update the article and its sources.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us through our contact page and include a link to the source that shows the correct information. We check every report. When a correction changes a fact, figure or name, we fix the article and update its date.
Story tips and submissions
You can suggest a founder, an organization, an announcement or a funding opportunity through the contact page. Please include a link to the original source. We verify it before anything is published. You can read more about who we are on our About page.
